Interviewed by RTL

I had the honor of being interviewed by RTL, as a member of the FPPL committee https://www.fppl.lu, alongside our president Daniel Fragoso. We discussed a major current topic: the impact of artificial intelligence on the profession of professional photographer. Thanks to the team RTL Lëtzebuerg for their warm welcome and professionalism.

Summary of our intervention (translated from Luxembourgish) Artificial intelligence is evolving at a rapid pace. Not long ago, generated images had obvious flaws. Today, they are so realistic that they raise concerns among many image creators. Daniel Fragoso reminds us of a fundamental truth: an AI image does not replace a real photograph. Photography is based on a concrete gesture, a moment of capturing light – a creative act rooted in reality. We already all use AI tools to save time, for example to edit a background. But as I emphasized during the interview, in portraiture it is the human connection that makes all the difference. An AI cannot capture an authentic emotion, as the photographer of Churchill did by removing his cigar to capture a powerful and spontaneous expression. The report also addresses legal issues. The European AI Act has just come into force, but legislation lags behind real AI usage, especially in copyright matters.

This debate is just beginning. It is crucial that we, photographers, be actors in this transformation, without losing what makes the very essence of our profession: humanity, light, the moment, emotion.
